Nice time in Marstal
A two-day stay in Marstal waiting for a better wind, cycling around, playing music while talking to the neighbours. A nice relaxing stay overall in a really nice place.
I started slowly in the morning by spending some time playing guitar inside the boat while waiting for the clouds to disperse. Then I went out and cycled just briefly around Mastal, checked out their nice streets and houses, have a quick look at the old dockyards, the beach houses… Lovely!
After some grocery shopping, I cooked a lot of food and played guitar and harmonica in the cockpit until nightfall, more or less.
The next day I went for a longer bike tour, going to some very nice harbour on another side of the island. There were many lovely wooden boats, a lovely cliff, wind, a perfect view. The end of the cycling was a bit long, and I was completely gashed by the end. I also got rinsed by a rain shower on the return.
I spotted a few impressive tall ships who were entering the channel towards Marstal. So I tried to go faster to get a better view of them, but I was a bit too slow.
This evening, I spent a good portion of my evening music playing talking to my neighbours who offered me a beer before saying hi (yes, they were Germans). They also invited me to eat with them after 5 mins (but alas it wasn't vegetarian). It was quite fun though, they were really happy to ear the music, and then we talked a lot about sailing too.
We talked some more in the morning as I was getting ready to continue toward the Kiel canal, but that's for next time.
The beach houses (formerly fisherman's houses if I understood correctly) of Marstal are really colourful and darn pretty!
There is a museum about shipwright, but I sadly didn't have time to check it out.
One examples of the nice houses in Marstal (there was also a gathering of old cars that day, making it even more pintoresque).
An old burial ground from the Vikings.
Ain't that a nice boat?
