Back to some civilisation
After 2 days without seeing much people, especially on land, and a good portion of the day without sighting a single sail, I am spending the night in the marina of Öregrund. The city is quite animated, with some local bands playing covers of Sweden's hits.
The sailing day in itself lasted only 6h, but at a great pace! It started with a 16 nm, 2-2h30 hour-long crossing of the bay near Väddö all in one swift broad reach tack.
After that I did some close-hauled and in hindsight I really ought to have taken a reef before that. A bit like seeing all the car coming in front of you with the lights on, the only 2–3 sails I crossed were all reefed or double reefed. But then again, I thought that according to the forecast, I should barely have half an hour of close-hauled before easing again into reach/broad reach. The weather however decided differently. The wind turned a few points, but enough to change from broad reach to close reach and make the exercise a lot more physical and requiring more attention than if I had taken that reef earlier…
At any rate, I managed it without worries if not without sweat 😅 and I had a harder time taking a “Y-bom” mooring for the first time 🤣. I had no notions of how to do that other than pointing the head of the boat between the 2 arms of the place and arriving slowly at the quay… 🤣
