Let the voyage commence! Misadventure with the gennaker, rain shower, sun and a stop at Fifång are on the agenda.

After a few days back in Grödinge, some shopping, a bit of engine check up after the scare I had when reaching Nynäshamn, I was ready to leave GBK for now and start my journey South. I'm going all the way to Enkhuizen, Netherlands, where I'll start a formation to become a maritime professional (at least that's the plan). The plan also includes wintering there onboard of Elvira, so I don't need to find a flat. On the phone, the school told me there is often at least one person a year doing that (and often a French 😅).

Anyhow, I set up in very little wind with the hope of reaching the outside of Himmerfjärden to take full advantage of the northerly wind forecasted for the next day.

I was all going quite fine and having the wind 3/4 aft, I thought it would be nice to take out the gennaker and see if I could fetch a knot more or two. That was also going quite fine, but the weather was looking a bit mean around the fjord (see the gennaker video). So I thought I better take down that gennaker before the threatening clouds reach me. Well, my timing was off, and I had to hurl it in in a wind stronger than I'd like, with the boat heeling and pitching because of the gennaker. It wasn't graceful, but I managed to pack it without scratches for Elvira and just two small burns on my left hand.

Hejdå GBK! (it rhymes in Swedish)

All quiet so far

but many threatening clouds

I originally had the bike on the deck, but after it got entangled in the genoa sheet, I've put it in the hold/cabin.

Oh the really not nice looking cloud getting closer while I take a video...

Back "at work" after the gennaker debacle

The rest of the day was relatively uneventful, but … I stayed in Fifång 🤣 after two failed attempts last year, I finally went in, stayed at the small pier overnight and in the morning I waited a bit for the wind to be a bit less crazy outside before going.

more clouds

and a bit of sun

A neat little shower falling down on Fifång

Showers all around...

For a good part of the late afternoon/evening, there was a succession of shower passing over or near the island. But it stopped at some point

A bit of distance left to make, especially if I don't take the kiel canal..., we'll see about that, there is time.

eating on deck in the evening. See, the sun came out eventually!
