Long spell in light air
Not a lot of speed today, but I still made decent progress. I stopped late in a small harbour that was a bit too shallow in places.
I left in good time in the morning. There wasn't much wind to play with at first, and it apparently hadn't yet decided to settle in a direction. When it did, though, it came from the south, and so I had to go for long tacks close-hauled.
I hesitated to continue overnight, but eventually decided against it: the night was going to be cloudy with (yet another) wind direction change. Not quite the ideal conditions for a first time. Also, I'd have probably arrived in the middle of the night in Kalmar or Borgholm.
Instead, when the evening was approaching, I decided to settle for Sandvik instead. It was a bit of a scare to moor in the harbour, though: well named, it often floods with sand and mud. I moored alongside a boat that seemed to have a bigger draft than Elvira, but even so, I touched some mud. It's just mud, though it's not a problem.
Yet, in the morning I decided to change spot (but that's for the next step).
A very still sea to start the day.
and a cloudy horizon
Somewhere around midday: clouds are gone but the wind is still lacking.
Hello out-of-focus ladybug! Welcome aboard!
It's quiet so let's walk around the boat!
That's a nice view as well.
When there isn't much to do, one can always train harmonica
S/Y Elen, a sailboat that's usually Sunbeam's neighbour. In summer, she takes onboard teenagers for weeks to sail along the Swedish coast.
The nice colours are starting to show up.
I like that
There was a racing-ish sailboat that was coming up on my tail.
We can't really tell on that picture, but there were some nice shapes on the coast.
Nice sunset from the wave-breaker of the harbour.
